These courses need to be offered by SC-approved providers and meet the standards set by the South Carolina Real Estate Commission. TUITION FEE(S): $129.00 (Members); $159.00 (Non-members) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Planning and zoning serve as the basis for all communities past, present, and future. This course will teach you the basic components and processes of the planning and zoning phases of real estate development, and how these phases must lead us to a better way of developing communities through the application of smart growth principles. You will acquire practical skills and strategies that can strengthen your business by actively contributing to the creation of environmentally sustainable, equitable, and financially resilient communities. By acquiring a greater understanding of the visioning, planning, and zoning process, you can empower yourself as a community advocate to effect positive changes and as real estate professional to gain a competitive advantage. You will learn to promote development that is both sustainable and beneficial for the community by advocating for smart growth principles. You will see the future of your community, and your business, in a whole new way! Topics Covered Summarize how understanding planning, zoning, and smart growth benefits your community and your business. Explain various perspectives on growth, making sure to identify specific strategies that can lead to more sustainable and equitable communities. Discuss the components and processes associated with zoning. Explain how smart growth is changing the way in which real estate professionals approach business, and describe the benefits of smart growth. Explain the factors that will be driving community planning and development now and in the future. Discuss ways that you can implement smart growth principles in your town to enhance the community and build your business. Successful completion of this course also fulfills the elective-course requirement to earn the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®) Designation . This class is being offered online live-stream through Zoom. Please review our Synchronous (live-stream) Class Technology requirements. COURSE MATERIALS: Course materials will be located in your Student Dashboard available for download via Canopy Campus prior to start of course. ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT: Students are required to attend 90% of this class (cannot miss more than 36 minutes of total class time). Students cannot make up missed time due to lateness or absences. Students may cancel five (5) business days prior to the course start date (Thursday, May 22, 2025) for a refund minus a $25 admin fee. After the deadline, tuition CANNOT be refunded.
